Where did you grow up?
Chicago suburbs.
Who was your favorite teacher, and why?
Dr. Prozialeck, my pharmacology professor. His teachings were extremely impactful. The way he explained the relationship between homeostasis and pharmacology still impacts me today and is applicable both to pharmacy as well as life in general. It’s all about balance!
What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM/Healthcare?
I have always had a love and passion for science. I was a very inquisitive kid – always asking questions. I wanted to know the why and the how. Science was always my favorite subject in school.
What were your moments of fear/challenges in your career?
All of the “firsts.” I am a first generation American, the first member of my family to go to college, the first member of my family to obtain a professional degree, and the first member of my family to work in STEM/Healthcare. There were and continue to be a lot of firsts and unknowns. I’ve learned to lean into ambiguity – and continue to ask a lot of questions!
What are some of the innovations in science that you are most excited about?
All of the innovative cancer treatments on the horizon.
What’s next for you?/What would you like to do when you “grow up’? (retire, etc.)/ what is something you hope to accomplish in the future?
I want to continue to learn and grow – both related to my work as well as outside of it. I don’t feel fulfilled unless I am learning something new or having new experiences. I’m always looking to expand on my knowledge base. I love flexing my brain.
What is your unique talent?
Basketball - I love to play as well as help coach my daughter’s team.
Favorite website/blog/”guilty pleasure”/fun?
I love to travel! I love immersing myself in different cultures and experiences. Traveling had to take a break due to COVID, but I’m looking forward to picking it back up again.
