What do you do every day?
I work everyday to improve health outcomes for women.
Why do you love it?
I love it because the work is meaningful and I feel like I'm making a difference. Also, the team is fabulous!
What were your moments of fear and challenges in your career?
One of my biggest fears was taking a bigger job. It can also be nerve-racking making decisions that effect millions of people.
What are some of the latest innovations in science that you are most excited about?
The role of genetics in diagnosing and treating cancer and other diseases.
Where did you grow up?
Trenton, New Jersey.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
My 11th and 12th grade history teacher. He emphasized the importance of discussion, not lecturing.
Describe an experience where you adapted your approach to resolve a sticky situation.
Sometimes you have to reframe an opportunity to get people to understand. I worked in contraception for awhile and in many places access to contraception is about maternal mortality, not a lifestyle decision.
What is your unique talent?
I like most people--I'm very positive.
Tell us about your personal style.
Basic and conservative with a flash of color or stylistic short, still some European tastes from 7 years living in Brussels.
Is there a current book or book you love?
Reading David Eggers, The Circle, but found Nassim Taleb's The Black Swan and Antifragile to be super interesting.
What is your favorite website or fun activity?
NY Times Sunday Reveiw, mostly but not all weeks.
Who inspires you?
Those around me, other working moms, my kids, my partners.
What’s next for you?
Ultimately making the world a better place and being a role model as well as a great human for my kids.
