Whether a new technology solves a decades-old problem or an emerging infectious disease changes how we approach healthcare, STEM and healthcare are constantly changing. Innovation and evolvement also align with the rapid expansion of the STEM and healthcare industries and the creation of new and exciting careers. For example, the COVID-19 pandemic fostered a rapid proliferation of the telehealth market. In 2020, the number of telehealth visits increased 63 times from 2019, with 840,000 users, to 2020, with 52.7 million users, and the telehealth market is expected to grow by 32.1% between 2021 and 2028. Furthermore, the healthcare industry is expected to add 4 million jobs by 2026, and many of these jobs align with the trend of innovation within the industry. Despite this growing workforce, more niche and new career options are often lesser known to those pursuing careers in the STEM and Healthcare industries. Therefore, more attention must be brought to these career options so that young women looking to enter careers in STEM and Healthcare are aware of the variety of opportunities and paths available to them. This Runway Roundtable will discuss some of the most innovative and expanding sectors and highlight female professionals who have navigated careers in these spaces. Additionally, the roundtable will bring together experts from STEM/Healthcare and talent acquisition specialists to discuss exciting career options expected to grow over the coming years.
