Where did you grow up?
Chicago
Who was your favorite teacher, and why?
My favorite teacher was my high school biology/anatomy teacher. She was passionate about science. She made learning fun and practical.
What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM/Healthcare?
My love of science started in high school. I went to an all-girls high school where I could be comfortable learning and pushing myself. Later in high school I met a woman who had a very successful career in the medical device industry. She was smart and interesting and drew me in. It was at that point I knew where I wanted to start.
What were your moments of fear/challenges in your career?
Paths presented themselves throughout my career that I never could have predicted. My advice is get involved, meet people, take on challenges for the sake of learning.
What are some of the innovations in science that you are most excited about?
Right now I am most passionate about sustainability and environmental solutions. Not exactly the niche of science I have spent my career in but critical for the future.
What’s next for you?/What would you like to do when you “grow up’? (retire, etc.)/ what is something you hope to accomplish in the future?
The question of, what do you want you want to be when you grow up, that is always evolving, I would love to teach at the high school level. I would also like to get involved with supporting patients with traumatic brain injuries.
What is your unique talent?
Floral design. I worked at a flower shop through college and love arranging flowers, bouquets, etc. I do not have a green thumb so I can’t grow them.
Favorite website/blog/”guilty pleasure”/fun?
