Where did you grow up?
Suburban Boston
Who was your favorite teacher, and why?
I had many great teachers. One of my favorite was Mark Williams who was a marketing professor in college. He had a long career in healthcare marketing and created a program specifically for marketers to understand the healthcare industry. He helped his students see the vast opportunities available across marketing in real life examples within the medical device and pharmaceuticals industries.
What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM/Healthcare?
I come from a long line of nurses, so I wanted to go into an industry that keeps patients at the center of what they do. I also have a minor in computer science because I have always loved technology. This background has been very helpful for leading digital marketing initiatives and analyzing sales and marketing data to make more informed strategic decisions. I can apply my love for marketing and technology with the end goal of helping healthcare professionals and patients all in one job.
What were your moments of fear/challenges in your career?
I started college as a computer science (“CS”) major with a business minor, but I found myself enjoying my business classes much more than my CS classes. Coming from a small high school, I was not accustomed to the freedom one has in college to choose different types of courses, never mind change your college trajectory. It was a challenge for me to accept that I needed to change my mind, that CS is just not for me, but I am so thrilled I did it.
What are some of the innovations in science that you are most excited about?
I am most excited about the prospect of expanding precision medicine past the oncology space. By better understanding diseases on the individual level, we have a much better chance at treating them more effectively for each patient.
What’s next for you?/What would you like to do when you “grow up’? (retire, etc.)/ what is something you hope to accomplish in the future?
I hope to eventually lead a marketing division within the healthcare industry. I have experience in devices, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals in large and small companies, so we will see where my career takes me.
Current book/book you love?
One of my favorite business books is “The Hard Thing About Hard Things” because it explains what to do when there is no “good” answer. The story is specific to startups, which has its own unique challenges, but can be applied to teams or divisions within a large organization.
Favorite website/blog/”guilty pleasure”/fun?
My guilty pleasure is historical fiction drama books, shows, and movies such as Downton Abbey, Poldark, The Nightingale, etc
